So Sick of Being Cold!

For the record, I haven't been warm since November! I am so over winter!!!

I have no pictures. Sorry! But I thought I would update anyway. It's been a pretty slow week. Last weekend, Jon and I rented The Kingdom. It was really intense, but a great movie. (Braden watched Daddy Day Camp and really enjoyed it)
Wednesday morning, Braden got in trouble for disobeying his mother by reading in bed after I had told him he was not allowed to because it was bedtime. --Yes! I punished my son for reading.-- Well, really it was for disobeying, but people keep focusing on the fact that he was just reading.
Wednesday afternoon, Jon brought home a new bed!! It was very exciting for everyone. Braden got our old queen and we got back support! I woke up sore the first 2 nights, went to the chiro on Friday, and only had a little kink in my neck this morning. I think I'm slowing getting adjusted.
Friday night, Braden and I went to Lima in search of sheets and a comforter for his "new" bed. We went to three stores!!! It was painful! The one he FINALLY decided on look exactly like one I had pointed out at the first store! Grrrr!
Today, Braden's team lost by one point in the first round of the basketball tournament. The worst part? Braden went to the line at the very end of the game and missed both shots (and several others from the line) He's my little Shaq! They lost 16-17. He's improved a lot though. He's gotten much better defensively. The free throws will come. :) -- Next up....... baseball!

Rock Out!

It's not how I would spend birthday money from my dad, but Braden thinks Jon made a great choice.
Tuesday, despite the heavy snow, Jon went out and bought Rockband for the PS2. It's a game (kind of like Guiter Hero) that comes with a guitar, drums, and microphone. You play or sing along with the notes on the screen. Up to 3 people can "rock" at the same time, and if you buy the sold seperately bass guitar, 4 people can play. The boys played it at a coaches meeting one night and LOVED IT!

Jon started out on guitar, but later switched to vocals. Braden declared himself all-time drummer.

Jon takes his gaming very seriously.

Yum, Yum

Here are the pictures of Braden "eating" his birthday jawbreaker while watching a movie this past weekend. He didn't make much of a dent.

Sorry!

I actually took a few pictures of Braden on Saturday, but I have the laptop downstairs today and the drive my memory card goes in is upstairs! So you'll have to check out Braden and his huge birthday jawbreaker another day.

Saturday was a very fun day! Braden's team won their game. They are now 3-2. He was 0-4 at the line twice though. He gets so embarassed being the center of attention that he screws up. Jon of course had things to say about this! He's getting much better about his parenting skills though. (All since reading Tony Dungy's book which I am currently reading and highly recommend) He told Braden he was mad because he (Jon) knew Braden could be the best out there, but that Braden doesn't believe in himself. Blah. Blah.
I was very proud to call him my husband as I listened from another room. (I try not to be in the room. Then Braden can't pout to me & has to listen to Jon)

THEN, Brooke G. and I went to see 27 Dresses!!! It was so fun and such a great movie. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD. Then we went to the ice cream parlor only to discover it was closed (at 6pm on a Sat). The other one was closed to, so we went to Marsh and bought Skinny Cow chocolate cones which are AWESOME!!! We had a great time and Braden waited almost 3 hrs. before calling my phone and asking me why I wasn't home yet! :)

AND, Jon did the dishes and washed all the sheets while I was gone! And read 50 pgs of a book to Braden!

Blue-Eyes Linked

I just read this online and found it fascinating. Not that I, along with every over blue-eyed person, have the same common ancestor, but that this is BIG NEWS. Apparently, these scientists are unfamiliar with the Book of Genesis. According to the Bible, we all have the same common ancestor! His name was Adam.

The University of Copenhagen out of Denmark has managed to trace the genetic lineage of blue-eyed individuals all the way back to a single ancestor.
By studying various people from distinctly unique countries like Jordan and Turkey, they discovered that everyone had brown eyes in the beginning. However, at some point in our history, a switch was triggered which caused brown eyes to transition to blue. The way this happened was that the amount of melanin in the iris became "diluted" as they put it.
This switch appears in the same genetic spot for each person, linking back to a common ancestor. The scientists referred to this as a mutation of the "OCA2 gene" which toned down the amount of melanin produced.

Mavs v. Pistons

For Jon's birthday, his parents got us tickets to see the Mavs play in Detroit.

I have decided that I am just not a fan of live sports...... (unless someday we can afford a private suite!) I had the worst time, thanks to the woman sitting beside me. She was very loud, which might have been ok if she knew anything about basketball. She kept calling people "losers" (a lot) and yelling at the refs and at Dirk. She was awful!!!! Even Jon, three seats away from her, finally had enough. And cotton candy was $5 a bag, so I decided against having some.

Never the less, here are a few pictures from the game.
This scared the pants off of Braden (and me)! You could feel the heat from the flame and it made a loud BOOM! I've always liked Rasheed, so he's the one I took a picture of.

My boys, not looking at me.

One looking, one being squeezed.

And two shots of the game. Should we be blessed someday with more children, the names of two of them and in these pictures. Any guesses?

And for the record, I do not like Detroit. It was just a dirty city. The roads were absolutely awful! And everything looked like it was falling apart (along the roads we traveled). I left the game with a pretty bad headache, thanks to the loud lady, and ended up with a migraine that made me sick to my stomach thanks to the roads. I'm ok with never going to Detroit again! Ever!
Also, spell check isn't working. Hope I didn't mess anything up too badly :)

Thank You

I just wanted to say "thank you" to Laci, Layce, and Amanda for posting comments this week. No one ever posts comments on my blog, but my counter keeps going up. I was so excited to have 3 comments (about the stove we've used everyday since it was delivered!)

In other news, my husband will be 26 tomorrow!!! To celebrate, he is dragging his family to Detroit to watch the MAVS play the Pistons. Whoopee! Keep us in your prayers...... it's a 3 hr drive up there! (Dallas will be having a playdate with her cousin, Baily, while we are gone.)

Ice, Icing, & Cookies

School was cancelled today due to ice. I woke up at 6am, checked the news, turned off the alarm, and went back to bed. We slept until a little after 8, showered, had donuts I had bought Thursday afternoon, and lounged around all morning. It was GREAT!

After lunch, the Exmans walked over and helped Braden ice cookies I had baked in our new stove. You would never know by this picture just how wild these 4 were! They look like they are working so hard. (Braden ended up taking a nap after the left!!!)

Braden used pieces of a broken cookie to make a devil.

Alex (age 10) with her cookie creation. --On a side note, Braden & Alex are teaming up Saturday at the Y's Basketball Skills Day. They are competing in the Boy/Girl Shoot-Out together!

Bailey (age 7). She had actually been yelling at Alex to give her a certain sprinkle container. She was kind enough to stop yelling and smile for the camera.

Sammy (age 5) hard at work decorating the cookie, the plate, the table, herself......

Here are some of the finished products. Don't they look delicious? Out of 40-45 cookies baked, only about 30-35 made it to the tray.

Bailey's work area.

Braden working on a pink football.

Sammy & Alex eating some that were damaged during decorating.
